Not only is running more enjoyable now, but I feel stronger and I am running faster. Here are my favorite tips to help you start running:
1. Take It Easy
- Slow and steady wins the race! Forget about impressing anyone and focus on your comfort level. You should be able to hold a conversation without feeling overly breathless. And if you need to take a walk break, that's totally fine.
2. Don't Focus on Pace:
- Your pace will improve over time as your body adapts. Just keep on moving and enjoy the process.
3. Focus on Time, Not Distance:
- Tracking time instead of distance is a great way to monitor your progress and celebrate achievements. It keeps you motivated without the pressure of hitting specific distances.
4. Strength in Numbers:
- Join a running group or get a friend to be your running buddy. It's a fantastic way to stay accountable and make running more fun. Consider hiring a coach if you're planning on running longer distances.
5. Shoes Matter:
- I cannot stress this enough! Invest in a decent pair of running shoes. Your body will thank you for it in the long run.
